This logo is interesting because it has changed the normal lionsgate logo and put red clouds around it suggesting some sense of fear and is the same colour as blood which gives it a horror feel compared to the original logo the font also seems more bold and serious. The logo also adds a sense of mystery/ the fear of the unknown as its almost as if the red clouds are hiding some sort of threat or danger and clearly showing the audience that his film will include violence or gore which is symbolised by the red colour as it is used in many horror films titles and other logos when the film is a of the horror genre.
This is our own logo which uses a lot of the normal conventions seen in horror film logos and is similar to the lions gate one due to its use of the color red because it involves using a image of something that seems frightening or scary as well as having its name in red and in a font that seems to suggest blood or violence which is the usual associations with the horror genre that we were aiming for which is zombie. The image behind the logo is also used to interest the audience as its not just a plain logo on its own and so helps suggest the type of films we want to make.
This title is good because it keeps the meaning of it hidden behind an almost crimson cloud and a ray of sun light which is suggested by the word "dawn" and so links in-with the title itself and the clouds also seem as if they are hiding something menacing and its almost as it has been designed so that we cannot see what is the threat in the film, similar to the lions gate logo it has a hint of crimson again suggesting that the film will include gore and so attracting the type of audience they are aiming for as well as indicating to them what the film may include.
Shawn of the Dead Image(Sub-Genre) This shot shows the characters impersonating zombies and includes a lot of mise en scene , especially with fake blood used, it is also a good mid-shot of all the characters together to show the representation of different genders and ages in horror films, the shot also shows them putting the plan which they had previously discussed being put into action and showing it working among the real zombies.
This image from our film clearly establishes the sub-genre because we see the zombie in full view and clearly and so shows the audience that it is a zombie film.
this character is established in a typical zombie genre way as he starts off in a hospital and is still in hospital costumer as he walks through a deserted london where it seems no one else is alive anymore which gives a typical urban feeling seen in many zombie films a similar setting could be used in our film as it makes the character look isolated and alone. the feeling of vulnerability is expressed by the abandoned london that he is looking towards and this shot switches to a close up of his shock and terror at the sight of such a massive city be deserted.
Our own establishing character shot is similar to that seen in the example above as the characters are shown to be alone in an isolated place, and this is the usual type of setting seen in zombie horror films as it makes them seem vulnerable as there is nothing else around them, this shot then goes on to a close up to show the characters clear emotion and fear of the threat that they are trying to escape.
this mise en scene is typically used in zombie genre and includes props such as fake limbs and blood , or fake organs to give the original sense of gore and violence seen through out these films , this scene is from dawn of the dead and is a good example of the extreme that some films go to in there use of props and gore to attract there audiences and also to create the sense of fear and horrify there audiences.we will attempt to re-create a possibly similar scene with propps such as this but obviously not to the extent of this particular scene.
This image is similar to the one above as you can see the fake blood clearly and we have tried to make it look as real as possible, the zombie is also attacking the human and so represents the violence that will be portrayed in the film as well as making an effective use of the mise en scene to make this clear to the audience
This is a close up of a zombie and is a key shot because it clearly shows the threat within the film and gives the audience a good representation of what to expect throughout , we could use a lot of zombie close ups in our film to present the fear of them clearly
This shot from our film is our attempt at re-creating an authentic looking zombie and is also a close up of the main threat in the film to let the audience know, we used fake blood and make up to make this character see as real as we could.
This is mid-shot of the main character running away from the zombies and shows us the fear on his face and the zombies chasing him , we could also use a similar shot of our characters being closely pursued by the zombies.
This shot from our film is similar to the example above because it shows a human trying to escape from the zombie, and we can hear his screams for help as he his grabbed and so is a key image because it shows what happens to a character when the zombie successfully gets them in the film.
This is a two shot of a human killing a zombie, and again helps us get an idea of the type of make-up used in our genre and helps us to re-create these types of zombies as in all the shots it shows a different range of zombies.
This shot is also a two shot which shows our characters trying to kill the zombie, however unlike the example above they fail to do so and one of them ends up getting caught by it.
This is a another shot of the zombie chasing the two characters, and shows them killing it, it also represents how zombies should be used as a wide range of age, race and physical characteristics to make a zombie film seem more realistic
