Costume/make up comments

Costume List- Fake Blood
Wrecked Clothes
Eye Liner(Dark Eyes)

Location- The locations we have test shots of are suitable as they are similar to the ones in the images which tend to be abandoned urban settings or urban settings with things like blood and chaos everywhere and we have an urban setting so we will not need to change the location that we have planed to shoot at

Actors- the actors we have chosen suit the zombies seen in the images , seeing as all zombie films seem to have a diverse range of zombies so we will make sure that our actors vary in age and gender so that they comply with these normal conventions they also seem to vary in size between people.

this video shows us how to make fake blood and this is important to us because many of our costume designs will involve fake blood especially with the high number of zombies we plan to have fake blood will become essential

INFECTION

EXT. DESERTED STREET - DAY
The scene is silent, faint unnatural howls can be heard in the wind, there is no sign of life.

SURVIVOR 1 (O.C.):
(Screams)

--Three SURVIVORS run on scene around a corner into an alleyway, their faces clearly visible, fear in their eyes. Two ZOMBIES, giving chase in an animalistic manner, closely pursue them.

--The SURVIVORS emerge from the other side of the alley way and run down a deserted street.

SURVIVOR 2:
Quick! This way!

--ZOMBIES emerge from the alleyway and briefly check their surroundings before continuing their hunt.

ZOMBIES 1 & 2:
(Snarls and grotesque heavy breathing)

--SURVIVORS come to a gateway and run through, ZOMBIES in close pursuit.

--SURVIVORS make their way into an open field, running along a path cutting through the grass. They are seen by other groups of ZOMBIES littered around the edges of the field.

SURVIVOR 3:
Shit!

--ZOMBIES begin snarling and growling at the SURVIVORS.

INFECTION

SURVIVOR 3:
We have to keep moving!

--The small ZOMBIE horde begins to close in behind the SURVIVORS.

SURVIVOR 1:
(Screams)

--One of the SURVIVORS trips and falls to the ground.

SURVIVOR 1:
(Hysterical) HELP!

--The other SURVIVORS turn to help but are too late.

SURVIVOR 1:
(Screams hysterically)

--ZOMBIES eat SURVIVOR 1 alive, guts and gore can be seen being thrown about as the body is torn apart in the frenzy.

Kyle Cooper is a modern title sequence designer and director, he has worked on multiple well known title sequences including the spiderman film and, most notably, se7en.
Main comments we picked up on:
  • The title sequence creates the audiences expectations of the film, it sets the expectation.
  • Use the title sequence as a prologue/to set up the story.
  • Using 'handmade' 'imperfect' ways to create sequences.
  • Title sequence inspirations; The Dead Zone (1983), To Kill a Mocking Bird (1962), Walk on The Wild Side (1962)

True Blood Title Sequence

The opening sequence for True Blood contains many clips that refer to the themes of the show such as predatory nature and religion etc. There is also a focus on teeth and red colours, again alluding the vampire theme of the show.

Se7en Title Sequence

The title sequence from Se7en creates suspense up to the main film, it shows the activities of the killer in-between killings creating a scrapbook of his murders. The music also slowly builds up throughout the duration of the sequence and adds to the building suspense.  The cuts in the sequence are also very erratic giving it an unstable look, possibly reflecting the nature of the villain.

Video Reveiws

http://www.youtube.com/user/bilboroumediastudie1#p/c/F3EFB5896581EF29/1/cyG5rp20aTA the walking dead
What has happened?
there has been some sort of virus outbreak that is turning people into "zombies" which has spread rapidly and the main character is a policeman trying to survive and find his family
What do you think will happen next?'
the main character will encounter some sort of obstacle in his way and will probally be side tracked either by zombies or something else like meeting another survivor or having to escape a certain area
how has fear been created?
fear is created by the deserted setting . we see many deserted vehicles and buildings. there is also a lot of blood everywhere to show that something is not right and at the start a little girl is walking in bloodied clothes but is not walking as a normal human would and adds tension which creates a sense of fear as she is going slowly but we cannot see her face
Where is it set how has it been lit?
It is set in a small town that seemed as if has been deserted , but only very recently, the lighting throughout is not that dark but this is because it is daytime during this scene , however there are some dark parts such as the start where the girls face is shadowed out for a little bit
do we see the threat/victim
yes we see both the threat and the victim at the start, the victim is the main character and he encounters the threat which is a child zombie that slowly moves towards him before he shoots it. this clearly identifys the threat that he faces to he audience so we know what he is afraid of

Harrison, Ryan and Sarah Title Research

In the opening titles for Dawn of the Dead we are told straight away the institution producing the film (Universal pictures) as the title sequence continues we are gradually also given the names of the directors producers and cast.

The credits are shown in-between short clips showing the lead up to the films main story, the credits are in red bold capitals then smudge like blood on  the screen.

The clips show mostly crowds of people being attacked and news bulletins up to epidemic, this show the build up of the crisis and adds emphasis to the scale of the epidemic. There are are also shots of conventions specific to the genre like blood, wide spread panic, attacks on people etc.

This title sequence has helped to give us a sense of the pacing for our own title sequence the the conventions to portray, like the lead up to epidemic, news bulletins etc. Watching this sequence has also given us ideas about how we could begin our title sequence e.g. in Dawn of the Dead the title sequence starts with a press conference with people asking question about the outbreak.

Harrison Lee; Media Assessment Self-Evaluation

Media Assessment Self-Evaluation
1.       Use of a camera
For our finished film we have made sure all shots were steady without disturbances when necessary, we also used a variety of shot from different angles and distances. All our shots were framed appropriately with only the necessary actors and objects within the mise-en-scene.
2.       Use of editing
After watching our finished work I am satisfied that the continuity is correct and well done but I also feel we could have used some different forms of transitions between shots to make it more interesting.
3.       Selection of content
Our ‘victim’ character was male like in the original film but his costume was different. I feel the costume used for our ‘victim’ character was a little too conspicuous (he was wearing a bright green hoodie) but I also feel it fitted the role as it was quite casual clothing so that the audience could relate with him easily as a normal person.
I feel our setting was well chosen as it stays true to the original film, though we were unable to find the exact place where it was originally shot, I still feel it fits well for our film.
4.       Self-Assessment
When filming my main role was directing most of the shots, I would physically show the others how I wanted the shot to look before we filmed them and would check the camera angles before shots too. I also had a main role in story boarding our film re-make as I wrote all the scene directions then showed how I wanted them interpreted when it came to actually filming.
I feel for our finished film the editing could have been smoother and we could have tried using some different transitions, I also feel we could have added more shots but were running out of daylight when filming (something I will prioritise on in future) but over all I am quite pleased with our final work.
When it comes to filming our final course work film I am going to prioritise more on making sure we have actors for the day we are filming (this was sometime a problem for us) and making sure we film we plenty of time to do our shots without fear of the lighting, if outdoors, changing.

Continuity Exercise

This exercise was to test our editing skills to see if we can make the scene flow correctly with multiple shots, we followed the 180-degree rule through out filming, this way in our shots it didn't look like the actors were ever changing places this way it doesn't confuse our audience.

Assessment video

The 30/40 seconds that we will be filming will be from when he throws the pendant to when he falls.  We will be filming in the Arboretum

first Post

In our group is Harrison, Sarah and Min. We will be recreating a psychological horror film.
Over the next few weeks the skills we will be learning are camera framing and shot types, continuity, storyboarding, genre conventions etc. We will be assessed on how well we recreate 30/40 seconds of a students horror film.
